i learned this at my mother’s table.

She hosted the way Filipino mothers do. The door open, the rice pot full, a plate made for you before you thought to ask. Nobody stayed a guest for long. What I understood, watching her, is that hospitality isn't something you perform — it's attention you pay.

I built GIAN on that, beginning in 2017. It runs further now — Seattle, Los Angeles, and Napa, with weekends in Dallas, Hawaii, Jamaica, and Tuscany — but the standard hasn't moved, because it was never mine to move.

Years from now you shouldn't remember what your weekend looked like. You should remember how it felt to be in it.
